Scriptural Worship

Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth." This is scriptural worship. We do not want to be like those of whom Jesus and the prophet Isaiah spoke in Mattew 15:8-9 "This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men." And we certainly need a better attitude than what we read in Malachi 1:13, "My, how tiresome it is!" Let's look at the church in the New Testament that Jesus built, and see what they did.

  1. They read God's word (Colossians 4:16; 1Thess 5:27 )
  2. They prayed (Colossians 4:2; 1Timothy 2:1)
  3. They remembered the Lord's death - click: (1 Cor 11:23-33)
  4. They sang (Ephesians 5:19)
  5. They heard preaching (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
  6. They glorified God (Philipians 4:20)
  7. And edified (built up) each other (Romans 14:19; I Thessalonians 5:11)

The church that Christ established knew how to worship in spirit and in truth.
Why not worship like that church?
